Hot Melt Structural Waterproofing
Hot Melt waterproofing systems were developed in America 40 years ago, and are now known and used worldwide because of their versatility, simplicity and durability.
Hot Melt is combination of refined bitumen, synthetic rubbers, fillers and other additives, designed for structural waterproofing systems and are intended for buried/inverted roofing applications such as podium decks, blue and green roofs, car parks, inverted roofs, below groundwork etc.
Correctly installed, they are designed to last the lifetime of the building and have therefore been used on many high profile construction projects throughout the UK.
Hot Melt systems comprise layers of hot melt rubberised bitumen, 3mm thick, with reinforcement laid between the coats to provide improved tensile characteristics and access to lay the second coat. On flat areas, this is customarily a non-woven polyester fleece.
Protection sheets of reinforced bitumen membrane rolls are installed to suit the specific end use of the area, i.e. a roof barrier fitted prior to laying a green or garden roof or more robust bitumen membrane in the case of car parks etc. before the final surface finish is applied, i.e. casting a concrete car park slab etc.
The benefits of this system are:
- a tough, self-sealing systems which is flexible to most construction movement,
- full bonding eliminating water tracking
- lasts the lifetime of the building
